What are we doing at practice?

Tuesday, January 16th from 7:45pm to 8:45pm
Bridgetown Arena

Puck Rush
10 min

Version 1
This drill is designed to improve your confidence to intensely pursue the puck under pressure.

The first person to touch the puck will win the game.

Pair yourself with someone on the team who is of even skating capability as yourself in a straight line.

Version 2

The second version requires you to do a hard stop and then race to the puck.

The first person to touch the puck will win the game.

Circle Puck Protect
10 minutes

The Circle Puck Protect Drill is a warm-up drill that gets players engaged at the beginning of practice while practicing puck protection & angling concepts.

1) The first two players in each line will battle for the puck within the face off circle until the whistle

2) On the whistle the player with possession or last touch will start skating down the ice to score. The second player will be angling the oncoming player from the opposite corner.

Notes: The offensive player cannot cross to the centre of the ice/middle lane until the are over the centre line.

Oreo Drill

15 min

Watch the video of the Oreo Drill. We will be playing the Oreo Drill from the red line!

To start: 3 players line up on the blue line. The players behind them are on the opposite team.

  • On the whistle, coach dumps a puck into the zone to begin a 3 on 3.

  • The offensive team is trying to score, while the defensive team is trying to pass the puck to the next players in line.

  • When the defensive team passes the puck to the next players in line, the team that was previously playing offense, is now on defense, and the players who just got the puck are now on offense.

  • The game is continuous, keep score for your team!

Tip: When trying to move the puck out of the zone to your team, use the skills we have been working on to break out of the zone.

Tag Up Forecheck
15 minutes

The Tag Up Forecheck drill is an excellent drill to practice forechecking, breakout, and rush attack principles. It starts as a neutral zone forecheck and progresses to a full in zone forecheck.
